Luganda
Luganda lesson notes
Short phrases for polite conversation. These notes are for study, not a live class.
Greetings
Oli otya? means “How are you?” Bulungi means “fine” or “well.” Ssebo is a polite address for a man, and nnyabo for a woman. Webale means “thank you.” Webale nnyo means “thank you very much.”
Introducing yourself
Nze… means “I am…” followed by your name. Keep the rest of the sentence short until you have checked it with a confident speaker.
Closing
Kale can mean “okay.” Weeraba is used when saying goodbye. A respectful close matters as much as the greeting.
